Derek Sunderland has been a part of the Bryson family Diamond Drilling business since the inception in 2008. He started out working as a roughneck on the Oil rigs in Alberta and as a helper on Diamond Drills in Nunavut and Northern Saskatchewan. Ultimately the opportunity to stay close to home and work with the family business brought him back to Saskatchewan as a diamond driller.
Derek is responsible for most of the hiring for operations roles, scheduling, job planning and client engagement in the field. He also provides field supervision as needed.
He loves to work with the communities in Northern Saskatchewan and be close to home. As a integral part of the exploration community he is proud of the work they have done to advance the industry in Canada.
As an entrepreneur he gets a great deal of satisfaction being involved in the family business. Derek understands the cyclical nature of the industry can be somewhat challenging. He is proud that Bryson has worked hard to mitigate the cyclical effects by teamwork and cost management.Over the past 7-10 years Derek has noticed a great deal of improvement in safety and operations readiness in the industry.
